10月18日，白俄羅斯全民公決結果揭曉，總統亞歷山大·盧卡申科可能繼續留在他已經坐了10年的總統寶座上。但是，這一結果并不為西方國家所樂見，美國于18日發表聲明，譴責白俄羅斯的選舉是“不公”的，并沒有使選民真正得到表達意愿和自由選擇的機會。新華社報道如下：The United States on Monday criticized the Belarus elections for so-called "electoral misconduct", saying "It does not look like the voters of Belarus were given a fair choice or a fair chance to express their choice."

"The election was seriously flawed, didn't meet standards," State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told a regular news briefing.

"We deeply regret that the Belorussian people were kept from freely and fairly expressing their will," Boucher said.

Misconduct表示“不正當的行為”，在此反映了對選舉公正性的質疑。此外，misconduct還有“處置失當；管理不善；行為輕佻、不檢點”等意思。例如：She sued for divorce on the grounds of her husbands alleged with his secretary.（她以其夫與秘書有染為由提起離婚訴訟。）
